Successful opening of Tunnel No. 1 of The Design and Implementation Project (Development of Al-Nsoor Roundabout by Constructing Tunnels and Overpasses, Constructing a Bridge over the Railway and Expan

On 25th December 2024, Tunnel No.1 of The Design and Implementation Project (Development of Al-Nsoor Roundabout by Constructing Tunnels and Overpasses, Constructing a Bridge over the Railway and Expanding Adjacent Roads) in Baghdad Governorate，Iraq, which is highly concerned by the citizens of Baghdad, was successfully opened at 12:16 p.m. and formally put into use after 13 months of continuous struggle by Transtech Engineering Corporation. 

This is another important node progress in the construction of the Project after the opening of Nissour Bridge. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Banqan Raykani, Iraqi Minister of Housing, Construction and Public Works, Mr. Ammar Moussa, Mayor of Baghdad, Mr. Hussein Jassim, General Director of Iraqi Road and Bridge Bureau and Mr. Guo Xiaowei, Vice General Manager of Transtech Engineering Corporation and Nsoor Project Manager.

Nsoor project adopts the design scheme of ‘2 elevated bridges + 5 tunnels’, which is compared to the implementation of ‘heart bypass’ in the ‘heart of Baghdad's transport network’ by industry experts. Tunnel No. 1 project site is located in the heart of Baghdad, and the public main roads overlap and cross, traffic pressure is huge, the surrounding construction environment is complex, but also faced with the underground water-rich fine sand layer of geological problems. To this end, the PMO carried out scientific research, careful planning, and formulated a series of targeted construction measures to ensure the smooth opening of Tunnel No. 1 as scheduled.

As an important node of the Nsoor project, the opening of Tunnel No. 1 will effectively enhance the area's infrastructure carrying capacity and the jurisdiction of the road traffic conversion capacity, easing the Nsoor area's traffic pressure. The next step, the Nsoor PMO will tightly anchor the subsequent target tasks, strengthen the construction organization, grasp the process of control, to ensure that the project is completed and put into use as scheduled, to serve the people's livelihood.
